Grown exclusively in Washington by FirstFruits Farms, Sweetie® apples are a natural cross between Gala and Braeburn varieties brought to the U.S market in 2009. Sweetie® apples are Gala’s sweeter, crunchier cousin.
Sweetie® apples were initially developed in New Zealand in the early 21st century at the Plant and Food Research Institute.
